We’re always in a rush to get somewhere. “I’ll be happy when I get [x]” - Replace [x] with more money, more time, more sleep, more love, more in shape, more likes, more followers, more more more. The reality is with each next thing you grasp onto and swallow, it only fills your stomach for a moment. Forgetting you’ve been fed your hunger for more returns and you go on hunting for your next meal.
The reason we look for more externally is because at our core we believe that we are not enough. We have a bad habit of accepting the material world and denying the inner world. We chase external pleasures (food, sex, alcohol, stimulants, attention) only to avoid the dissatisfaction we feel within.
Abundance involves more than simply manifesting the things or situations you long for, but is grown from a deep sense of acceptance. Acceptance that who you are, where you are and what you have is enough. When we discover a deep sense of acceptance we can let go of the external desires, expectations, control and the limitless conditions we set for ourselves. The problem is, when we begin to let go we are faced with a shaking fear that whatever we are chasing will be gone forever - But in fact, the opposite is true!
The faster we run and the tighter we hold, the further [x] desire actually moves away. Take a breath, loosen your grip and look around. Find gratitude in the people who care for you, the roof over your head, the food in your fridge, even in the access to technology so that you can read this to begin with.
Give yourself permission to escape the rat race and mourn what is lost in the process. What returns will return to a new place of gratitude and be enjoyed by you to its fullest. By working from the inside out you may just discover an entirely new will to live.
Counter to what feels natural in the go-go-go society we’ve crafted, switching gears will give you a more sustainable source of energy to face the darkest corners. You deserve a life that moves more slowly and gives you the time you need to actually enjoy the money you’ve made, the career/business you’ve built and the relationships that energize you.
