The Gender Pay Gap and Why "Pay Me" Matters

Octopied Mind is a brand that believes in supporting those who face multiple barriers, including the gender pay gap. As a business run by individuals who face these barriers themselves, we know firsthand the impact that unequal pay can have on people's lives.

The gender pay gap refers to the difference in average earnings between men and women. However, the gap widens substantially for people who face multiple barriers, including racialized people, 2SLGBTQ+ people, and people with disabilities. Despite often having higher levels of education, people within these communities are more likely to live in poverty, face greater barriers to employment, and earn less at work compared to their white, cisgender, heterosexual counterparts.

As a brand that values equity and fairness, Octopied Mind believes that everyone should be paid fairly for their work, regardless of their gender, race, sexual orientation, or ability. We are committed to doing our part to address the gender pay gap and support those who face these barriers.

This is why we created the "Pay Me" design. It's more than just a bold statement - it's a demand for equity and fairness in the workplace. By wearing this design, you're showing your support for those who face the gender pay gap and other barriers to fair pay.

We are excited to announce that we have added a new donation button at checkout! For this week only, 100% of your donations will be equally split amongst the Octopied Mind Team, who are a diverse group of Indigenous, Women, and 2SLGBTQ+ people.
