Cannabis does a range of things for a variety of people. It can be healing, promote creativity, increase energy, help you sleep, decrease anxiety and more. And while this medicine grows all over the world, many of our worlds countries still deem cannabis illegal for recreational and/or medicinal use today.⠀
Despite countries opening up their third eye to the benefits of legalization, we must acknowledge the continued impact that cannabis prohibition has had on creating policies and practices that drive systemic racial injustice. While white males dominate the licensed cannabis sales industry for the most part, building appealing modern stores all over the country, there are still millions of people, mostly black, indigenous and people of colour, behind bars for selling the same green.
Imagine sitting in a cell for years, decades, or even for life, convicted of an activity that is no longer a crime, while thousands of other people (mostly white) build intergenerational wealth doing exactly the same thing. That is the situation that over 40,000 cannabis prisoners face today in the United States alone, while countless others languish in jails and prisons worldwide.
This is why for the month of October we're donating 10% of profits from our Coffee & Cannabis Tees to "The Last Prisoner Project".
The Last Prisoner Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to cannabis criminal justice reform. Through legal intervention, public education and legislative advocacy, they work to redress the past and continuing harms of unjust and ineffective approach to drug policy.
