Ecomadix x OM | Why is there an Ecomadix bag on our site?
Before she was helping run the back end of Octopied Mind, our friend Jess built Ecomadix, a small eco-focused brand making bags, gear and apparel from recycled materials. The idea was simple: things you'd actually use every day, made in a way you could feel good about.
The Octopied Mind connection goes back further than you'd think. Jess and Jill have been friends since university while studying engineering, and that was how she met Sarah. At the time of Octopied Mind's forming, Jill and Jess both bought screen printing kits to start a new hobby. Jill started, which led to the eventual creation of Octopied Mind and it's original art style, while Jessica's sat unopened in her closet.
Later, Jess and Jill teamed up for an engineering contracting operation. But then, COVID hit and all the contracts were canceled or put on hold. Sarah, who was working at Shopify at the time, saw the opening and asked Jill to commit to Octopied Mind full time. At the same time, in an episode we can look back on and call pure mania (Jessica's own words), she decided to launch Ecomadix, open a bar, and a retail store in Nelson, BC. Eventually Jess stepped back to focus on her health and other things and now she is with us here at OM.
We believe in community. We believe in the village. And we firmly believe that when one of us rises, we all rise together. So, we're giving the last of the original Ecomadix collection a home here (plus, these products are too good to leave sitting in boxes).
Beyond friendship, Ecomadix matches our values: high quality and built to last. This original collection is available in a limited run. When it's gone, it's gone.
