Alyse Parker + Octopied Mind

LATEST UPDATE: We are now in the printing phase.

Finer Details:

The shirts & sweaters are currently being printed in batches. We can only print so many a day since they’re all printed by hand in a print studio nearby. The expectations for pre-orders, how the shirts are made and when they would be shipped have been clearly communicated on our website within this Alyse Parker Pre Order Expand FAQ. These shirts were not made and ready to go the moment you all clicked buy - this was a special pre order item made with love from start to finish! <3
We’re a small business, made up of just 2 people! With over 215 orders (and most orders containing more than one item), things certainly take time. Additionally, there are others involved in the process such as wholesalers, the print studio, postal service (and even Alyse who shipped us some special items to include in every package) who’s timing we have to appreciate. <3
Once your order is shipped you’ll receive a notification either by text or email depending what information you left at checkout. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to reach out to us at info@octopiedmind.com. <3
FAQ

1. When did the pre-order phase happen?

The pre-order phase is began November 10th at 11:59PM EST and ended November 15th at 11:59PM EST.

2. What currency did I pay in?

All prices you see on octopiedmind.com are in CAD

3. Why are you doing pre-orders instead of having inventory in stock?

We aren’t naive to the fact that historically, the clothing industry has negatively impacted Earth. With that being said, pre-orders allows us to ONLY use what we need. From the amount of merchandise ordered, to the ink used to print the design, to the clothing tags strung, to the polymailers used, to the shipping labels printed - we are only using exactly what all of you ordered! No extras.

4. When will I receive my order?

We are dedicated to having a fast-paced supply and demand chain to ensure we have the best chances at getting your order in your hands before December 25th 2019.

5. What does the entire pre-order process look like?

Great question - In short, there are lots of people putting love, time and energy into your product. After the pre-order phase has ended, we will calculate all items purchased and place the order with our wholesale supplier. Once our supplier receives the order they will have their warehouse pick everything out and pack it all up. Once this is done, our suppliers will give us an estimated date that the inventory will be shipped to our print shop. Once the inventory has arrived at the print shop, the design will be printed by hand, dried and ready for pick-up. At this point, we swing by the print shop to pick them all up, bring them home and tag, package and prepare your order to be shipped via the shipping you chose at checkout. We recommend tracked shipping, just in case :)

6. Will I be updated through-out this whole process?

Most definitely. We will be keeping you up-to-date and ensure that the entire process is completely transparent. From ordering the merchandise straight from our wholesaler to showing you the shirts be printed by hand, to packaging and shipping you will be kept in the loop! We want you to be a part of this experience from beginning til' end so that when you receive your product, you can feel all of the love, time, energy and resources that went into it.

7. What styles will this design be available in?

We will offer the "Expand" design in a semi-cropped shirt (black and mauve) as well as crew neck sweaters (black).

8. What material composition are the shirts? What material composition are the sweaters?

Shirts: 65% polyester, 35% viscose, 3.7 oz.

Sweaters: Pre-washed, pre-shrunk 70% rayon from bamboo and 30% organic cotton.

9. How short is the semi-cropped shirt?

Our ultra soft semi-crops are the slightly cropped version of your favorite tee. The Crop Tee shows just the right amount of skin thanks to a flowy silhouette, tailored sleeves, and a subtle rounded hem. For additional information, please refer to the size chart.

10. Where are the shirts made and are they made ethically?

Our suppliers are committed to producing eco friendly clothing made ethically. They dye all of their fabric in California at dye houses that use 7x less water than the average clothing manufacturer, saving 24 million gallons a week. Their sewing and cutting facilities are run on solar power. Their facilities are built with massive skylights to use as much natural light as possible and use motion-sensor LED lighting when it's not. They are consistently updating hardware that uses less power, and the buildings are insulated in a way that uses minimal artificial heating and cooling. Their facility produces virtually zero waste. They recycle everything possible - fabric, plastic, bottles, paper and more.

11. How do the unisex sweaters fit?

These organic cotton and bamboo sweaters are unisex. Women may prefer to order one size smaller. Please refer to the size chart here.

12. Where are the sweaters made and are they made ethically?

Our suppliers for the organic cotton and sustainably sourced bamboo sweaters consolidate all aspects of their manufacturing processes within Toronto, Canada. This eliminates the unnecessary shipping of supplies across international borders, which reduces unnecessary carbon emissions. They use state-of-the-art knitting machines to reduce energy consumption, their dye houses only uses nontoxic materials and their cutting and sewing departments recycle upwards of 20% of their textile waste. They reuse all the envelopes from incoming mail and all of their printing is done on old invoices. They even use second-hand boxes for shipping products over to us at Octopied Mind. They are also committed to expanding their eco-friendly collection. Over 50% of their line is now made from bamboo (including these sweaters). Bamboo does not require fertilizers or pesticides for cultivation and it grows rapidly without depleting the soil. Bamboo has a lower environmental impact than pesticide-laden conventional cotton and petroleum-derived nylon and polyester fabrics. Bamboo is also a superior fabric in terms of softness and functionality. Bamboo is inherently moisture wicking and anti-bacterial.

13. What type of ink is used to print the design?

We screen print all of our designs by hand using water-based ink. Water based ink, which is made by suspending a 100% biodegradable pigment into a water base, is gaining popularity within the screen printing industry due to its combination of quality, affordability, and eco-friendliness. As a compound, water-based ink is much more gentle on the environment than plastisol ink (plastic-based ink). It simply doesn’t contain any of the toxic chemicals of its plastisol counterparts (no PVC, no phthalates). Instead it’s comprised of naturally occurring substances. Because of this, water based ink is much less risky for printers, consumers, and the environment. In addition, because it’s water soluble, no specialized chemicals are required for its clean up. This keeps potentially harmful substances out of our waste and water supply. We are dedicated to using and disposing ink in a responsible manner.

14. What is my package shipped in?

We use 100% plant based compostable poly-mailers made by a Canadian company called NoIssue. Check them out here!
